Hactl extends biofuel use
As part of its contribution to a more environmentally sustainable air cargo industry, Hactl is now using B5 biodiesel as the fuel for its 600KVA mobile genset. This power generator provides emergency power supply back-up to Hactl ULD Centre at SuperTerminal 1.
B5 biodiesel contains 5% of used cooking oil and 95% diesel. It can be used in modern diesel-fed engines with neither modification nor any performance trade-off. It is considerably cleaner than conventional petroleum diesel fuel, releasing fewer acid rain-causing compounds during combustion.
Hactl first adopted B5 biodiesel for the Hacis forklifts in July 2009. Between then and December 2012, Hactl had consumed almost 500,000 litres of B5 biodiesel, successfully eliminating almost 65,000 kg of carbon emissions, or equivalent to newly planting 2,800 trees, each 5 meters tall, to absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide.
The use of clean biofuels and electric vehicles reduces air pollution and contributes to a greener airport.
